What is The Authenticity Alliance?
The internet is an information highway. We are building the indoors.
The Authenticity Alliance is an Authenticity Growers Cooperative — a network of enterprises and individuals growing Authenticity™ and bringing it to the digital world.

01 · The problem
Living outdoors
A highway is an outdoor public transport system, and it does one job well: it gets you from one building to another. Nobody builds a home on the shoulder of a highway, keeps their files there, or lets their children play beside the traffic.
That is more or less what we have done with the internet. It was characterized as an information highway, and it still earns the name — but we have moved our working lives, our records and much of our social lives out onto it. Social media is a public park. In a park, nobody knows who anyone is, and nobody is accountable for what they say there.
The most profitable use of that park has turned out to be anger. Personal information — purchase habits, relationships, beliefs, political affiliations — is collected by hidden trackers and sold to whoever will pay. The buyers are not only interested in what you might purchase. They are interested in what you can be made to feel, because an angry and isolated audience is a reliably profitable one. Meanwhile the world's information infrastructure drifts, piece by piece, into the hands of authoritarian intelligence agencies.
What we need is not a faster highway. We need indoor space: bounded, designated for a purpose, with a name on the door and someone at the desk who asks who you have come to see. That is the space the Alliance exists to build.
02 · Definition
What Authenticity™ actually means
The word Authenticity™ identifies a digital or physical space of accountable anonymity, in which people enjoy both privacy for themselves and accountability from others.
Authenticity™ is the condition that exists in a space where there are:
- Digital Signatures Everywhere
-
Every participant in the space signs what they say and do, so that a claim about who said or did what can be checked rather than taken on faith.
- Measurably Reliable Identity Certificates
-
Those signatures are backed by identity certificates whose reliability can be measured, not merely asserted.
- Certificates Owned by Their Users
-
The certificate that identifies you belongs to you, not to the platform you happen to be standing on.
Together these provide privacy via accountable anonymity: you are not required to identify yourself to everyone in the room, and there is a defined process by which, with good cause, someone can establish who you are.

03 · Specification
The design specification: Quiet Enjoyment Infrastructure
The Quiet Enjoyment Infrastructure is a design specification: twelve defined components in three groups. The first group is the authenticity infrastructure, and it is about identity. It does not ask a lobby receptionist to identify the bad guys as they come through the door. It asks for accountability — see some ID, issue a visitor badge, ask who they have come to visit.
The standard being applied is the one we already accept for physical space. Any room you are sitting in has an occupancy permit, which means an architect, a contractor and a building inspector have each put their livelihood on the line attesting that it is habitable. That is why buildings work. Nothing less is being proposed here. The specification is set out at length in the book Quiet Enjoyment.
04 · Mechanism
What the Alliance does
The Authenticity Alliance is the engine that is building Authentiverse™ following the design specifications of the Quiet Enjoyment Infrastructure.
It does this by convening independent enterprises, each of which solves one inauthenticity problem in one market, and connecting them to individuals who want to help implement and promote Authenticity™ principles. The Alliance does not absorb its members. Each enterprise keeps its own market, its own customers and its own judgement; the Alliance is what allows what one enterprise builds to be relied on by the next.
The method is incremental implementation rather than revolution — one enterprise, one market, one solved inauthenticity pain at a time.
05 · Who is in it
Who the Alliance is comprised of
Two groups, weighted equally, working together to promote trust and transparency across digital ecosystems.
Enterprises
Authenticity Enterprises that provide Authenticity solutions for the inauthenticity pains in a specific market or industry. Each Member Enterprise takes one problem in one market and solves it there.
Individuals
People who understand the problems of inauthenticity that plague the world's information infrastructure, and the way Authenticity solves those problems — and who want to play a part in helping others see those solutions.
Customers and members of an Authenticity Enterprise are automatically eligible to become Individual Members of The Authenticity Alliance. You may also join directly as an Individual Member.
06 · The register
The cooperative roster
Every name below is an Enterprise Member of The Authenticity Alliance. This is a printed register, not a logo wall: the cooperative is made of enterprises that each own a problem and a market.

07 · Strategy
Incremental implementation
You do not replace the world's information infrastructure in a day, and no one seriously proposes to. You boil the ocean one enterprise, one market, one solved inauthenticity pain at a time — until enough of the network is governed by the Quiet Enjoyment Infrastructure that the rest has somewhere to move to.
Boiling the Ocean: the Alliance's account of how Authenticity is implemented incrementally, enterprise by enterprise.

Spyfree: what this page does not do
Today's internet is infested with hidden trackers — tiny pixel beacons, scripts and device-tracking tools designed to follow you without your knowledge. The operator of this website is a Member Enterprise of The Authenticity Alliance, and this site uses no tracking pixels, no beacons and no covert identity-reporting mechanisms of any kind.

Why we ask instead of taking
Your visit to this site is like walking into a shop or another public accommodation. A shop owner might like to have information about you, but compelling you to disclose it would be unreasonable — a gross invasion of your privacy. We would rather not. 11 · Dispatches
Dispatches from the Cooperative
Field notes from the work of growing Authenticity — essays and explainers, interview transcripts from the Alliance's own recordings, and short video briefings. Each dispatch is issued by an Authenticity Enterprise or an Individual Member, with the contributor and their affiliation on the byline.
Dispatches are being prepared. The first entries are being filed by member enterprises and individual members, and will appear here as they are issued — with a dateline byline and the enterprise named, and with no share counts, read-time badges or engagement pixels attached.
12 · Questions
Questions people actually ask
What is The Authenticity Alliance?
The Authenticity Alliance is an Authenticity Growers Cooperative — a network of enterprises and individuals whose purpose is to grow Authenticity and bring it to the digital world. Like the agricultural cooperatives in the physical world that it takes its name from, it is a shared structure through which independent members bring a common thing to market.
What is Authenticity™?
The word Authenticity™ identifies a digital or physical space of accountable anonymity, in which people enjoy both privacy for themselves and accountability from others. It is the condition that exists in a space where there are digital signatures everywhere, backed by measurably reliable identity certificates that are owned by their users.
What does the Alliance do?
It is the engine that is building Authentiverse™ following the design specifications of the Quiet Enjoyment Infrastructure. It convenes independent enterprises, each of which solves a particular inauthenticity problem in its chosen market or audience, and connects them to individuals who want to help implement and promote Authenticity™ principles.
Who is the Authenticity Alliance?
Two groups. Enterprises: Authenticity Enterprises that provide Authenticity solutions for the inauthenticity pains in a specific market or industry. Individuals: people who understand the problems of inauthenticity that plague the world's information infrastructure and who want to help others see the solutions. The enterprises already inside the cooperative are listed in the roster above — Factory, Placeware, Community and Governance Enterprises among them.
What is the Quiet Enjoyment Infrastructure?
It is the design specification — twelve defined components in three groups, beginning with the authenticity infrastructure, which is about identity. It applies to digital space the standard we already accept for physical space: a building is habitable because an architect, a contractor and a building inspector each put their livelihood on the line attesting to it. QEI is the blueprint, and Authentiverse™ is what gets built to it.
How does accountable anonymity differ from ordinary anonymity?
Ordinary anonymity means nobody can tell who you are — including when you are doing harm. Accountable anonymity means you are not obliged to identify yourself to everyone you encounter, but there is a defined process by which, with good cause and proper authority, who you are can be established. The difference is the presence of accountability, not the absence of privacy.
Is this the same thing as blockchain?
No — though both rest on asymmetric cryptography, the same core construction material. They part ways on accountability. Blockchain systems are deliberately built without a central authority, so the only thing you know about a counterparty is the address they used. Authenticity relies instead on measurably reliable identity certificates owned by their users, which is where accountability comes from.
Why does this site have no cookie banner?
Because this site does not use cookies unless you ask us to. A banner would be a request for something we are not taking, and asking you to dismiss it on every visit would be friction with no purpose. If we want to know something about you, we will ask. We will not spy.
